First off, I’m a self admitted Jason Voorhees stan. I really like the fact that in my opinion, the franchise revolves around the character of Jason. That’s what brings down the Halloween franchise to me. It revolves too much around the character of Laurie Strode. She’s one of the greatest “final girls” in horror history, I get that. However, Michael Myers is the OG masked murderer. I was born in 1991 and I can only imagine how the world perceived John Carpenter’s Halloween in 1978. Halloween as a stand alone film is easily one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Even if you say it hasn’t aged well at some points you can never deny it’s impact on horror as a whole but the slasher genre itself. Now here’s where I start having an issue....

This franchise has so many different story lines it gets confusing. I’m not the biggest continuity guy when it comes to my slashers honestly. I mean don’t get ridiculous but that’s what drags Halloween down. Cult of Thorn (4,5,6) we’re introduced to Jamie Lloyd, Lauries daughter. These 3 films continue on the first two films. Now we have the H20 and Resurrection timeline after the first two films. Then we get to Rob Zombies two film mini timeline, the latter of the two is complete garbage and disrespect to the Michael Myers character. Let’s fast forward to the present day. In 2016-2017 we get the trailer that a new Halloween movie is coming soon. A direct sequel to the first Halloween film.

I personally loved the 2018 sequel. I ranked it as my favorite of the franchise. It’s not perfect but it’s the sequel I have always wanted in this franchise. Michael Myers looked cool as hell. Thank God we got a cool mask after all the duds this franchise has used. He was tough, intimidating, fierce, and tenacious. One of my complaints of the 78 film is how weak Michael came across. Laurie kicked his ass for the most part of that movie. Now my hopes for the next two sequels (which I’m not happy they’ve announced already) are we see Michael finally take down and get rid of Laurie Strode. This franchise should be about Michael Myers, not the final girl. I know Jamie Lee Curtis is a treasure to a lot of fans and the female audience and I get it. In the Halloween Ends film its been announced Michael is killed and I will be beyond pissed if it’s Laurie who kills him. Let’s see the daughter Karen or granddaughter Allison take Myers out. Don’t be afraid to kill off the main character.

In conclusion, I am a huge Michael Myers fan but not a huge Halloween franchise fan. I feel like the whole franchise tried so hard to capture the magic of the first movie and never could. This franchise has revolved around Laurie and Jamie Lloyd too much and not the true star of the franchise. Jason is who we think of in Friday the 13th, Freddy in Nightmare On Elm Street, Chucky in Child’s Play, etc etc. Come on David Gordon Green, give Michael the shine he deserves!
